Hello Hive,
A little bit of what I hope is good news after a week of awful news.
Hive Mind is now its own site! Moving forward, all Hive Mind content, including recaps and features, will be available on this Substack.
In the coming weeks we’ll be expanding our coverage to include local food write-ups and music reviews in addition to the entertainment content we’ve spent the last two years building on The Beehive.
I’m feeling very excited about the future of Hive Mind and believe we can build a site that highlights the best of what Utah has to offer, as well as an enthused community beyond the Beyoncé fans who mistakenly tag Hive Mind on Twitter.
The Last Week in Hive Mind.
The Bachelor season 1,746 premiered and the nation met Matt James and his 30 girlfriends. Irene and I reluctantly remembered some dates who prayed over dinner on Trash Talk:
and maybe got a little mean about some of the women’s evening wear.
We also created a spoiler-proof prediction competition with prizes. Each week I’ll send out different prediction prompts, and whoever has the most correct weekly predictions at the end of the season will receive a $100 Amazon gift card. Second place will receive a $50 gift card and third place will receive a $25 gift card. The link to new prediction questions will be available in this newsletter every Monday. Make your predictions before 6:00 PM MST Monday evening.
On Hive Mind we discussed Soul, which we might be holding to an impossibly high standard.
Sorry, Pixar.
The Real Housewives Of Salt Lake City brought us Billy The Ex, my personal penguin dream come true, a surprise party, and a very drunk Whitney Rose.
Read my recap here, and then listen to our Green Room episode in which I CORRECTLY guessed that friend of the housewives Sara Pierce was at the insurrection at our nation’s capitol.
I hate being so right all the time.
This Week In Hive Mind
We’ll be breaking down The Bachelor week 2 on Trash Talk, episode 10 of RHOSLC on The Green Room, and Citizen Kane on Hive Mind for no other reason other than Eli had never seen it(?!!!)
Emily and I will also start a bonus series on Bridgerton if I can figure out how to set that up on Anchor.
Other Relevant Stuff
I was honored to join Richie Steadman on The Lisa Show for a segment I’m honestly surprised was aired. Our conversation was ostensibly about Hallmark movies but rapidly devolved into an argument over La Croix.
Benjamin Wood created a list of the best movies of 2020, and while I strongly disagree with Mank sitting at number 2, I did walk away from the piece with a list of need-to-watch films.
Participating in Utah Taste Off has become one of my favorite pandemic activities because I love eating and I love judging things. Taste Off currently has two kits available for pre-order Gluten Free, and Tropical.
Around The Internet
This week I plan to distract myself from, you know, everything, with The Renner Files, a true crime podcast that uncovers the mystery of why Jeremy Renner’s stupid app failed.
The Onion Reviews Wonder Woman 1984. Also if you haven’t seen The Onion Reviews Fifty Shades Freed watch it now.
If Hilaria Baldwin thought a coup would distract us from the hot mess she’s created, pepino underestimated how much we enjoy a celebrity meltdown. Who Weekly has the best explainer for who Hilaria is and how she tripped into national scrutiny.
